New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

money_bag_clip_art_23184Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

The Henry Luce Foundation has awarded Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, a three-year, $144,600 grant to support the Clare Booth Luce Undergraduate Research program. Under the program 12 women students at the college who are majoring in computer science, physics, or chemistry will have the opportunity to conduct research with a Hamilton faculty member.

Indiana University has received a three-year, $4.2 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development for programs to promote the higher education of women in South Sudan. Cooperating institutions in the project to create a supporting environment for women pursuing higher education in the war-torn nation are Virginia Tech, the University of Juba, and Upper Nile University.

HAMILTON COLLEGE: LISA TRIVEDILisa N. Trivedi, an associate professor of history at Hamilton College has received a grant from the Association for Asian Studies to create digital copies of the 19th- and early 20th-century women’s journals Stri bodh (1857-1944) and Sundari subodh (1904-1921). The only remaining copies of the journal are housed at the B.J. Institute in Ahmedabad in India.

Dr. Trivedi is a graduate of Hampshire College in Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Chicago and a Ph.D. in history at the University of California at Davis. She is the author of Clothing Gandhi’s Nation: Homespun and Modern India (Indiana University Press, 2007)
