The Late Susan Nolen-Hoeksema of Yale Honored by the Association for Psychological Science

Susan Nolen-Hoeksema, the former chair of the department of psychology at Yale University, who died this past January, has been awarded posthumously the James McKeen Cattell Lifetime Achievement Award for Applied Research from the Association for Psychological Science.

Dr. Nolen-Hoeksema was an expert on depression among women and girls. Professor Nolen-Hoeksema was the author of Eating, Drinking, Overthinking: The Toxic Triangle of Food, Alcohol, and Depression and How Women Can Break Free (Henry Holt, 2005), The Power of Women: Harness Your Unique Strengths at Home, at Work, and in Your Community (Times Books, 2010) and Women Who Think Too Much: How to Break Free of Overthinking and Reclaim Your Life (Henry Holt, 2003).

Dr. Nolen-Hoeksema joined the Yale faculty in 2004. Previously, she taught at Stanford University and the University of Michigan. A 1982 graduate of Yale University, she earned a Ph.D. at the University of Pennsylvania.
