In Memoriam: Nancy Young, 1968-2026

Nancy Young, associate professor of general dentistry and dean of the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, passed away on June 6. She was 58 years old and had suffered from cancer.

For her undergraduate education, Dr. Young attended East Tennessee State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education. She went on to earn her doctor of dental medical degree from Augusta University. Later in life, she received a master of education degree from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Young first joined the Dental College of Georgia faculty in 2012 as an assistant professor. She was promoted to assistant dean for student affairs in 2018. Four years later, she was named dean of the college. Throughout her tenure, she was a member of several committees as well as the Faculty Senate.

In a tribute on social media, Augusta University President Russell T. Keen wrote, “Nancy gave so much of herself to this institution and to the profession she loved. Her dedication to shaping the next generation of dental professionals, her unwavering commitment to excellence, and her genuine warmth touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Augusta University is a better place because of her service and her spirit toward our life-changing, life-saving mission.”
