Lori Suddick Appointed President of Des Moines Area Community College in Iowa

Lori Suddick has been named the fifth president and chief executive officer of Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Iowa. She will begin her presidency on June 15.

According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, DMACC enrolls nearly 24,000 students, 56 percent of whom are women.

Since 2018, Dr. Suddick has served as president and chief executive officer of the College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. Before her current role, she spent nearly two decades as a faculty member and administrator at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, where she ultimately served as vice president of learning and chief academic officer. She held several roles throughout her long tenure with the college, including director of the speech-language pathology assistant program, associate dean of health sciences, and interim dean of the college’s Marinette, Wisconsin, campus.

“DMACC is a cornerstone of Iowa’s economic and social vitality,” said Dr. Suddick. “I am excited for the opportunity to lead an institution that is so vital to so many students, families, businesses, and industries throughout Iowa.”

A first-generation college student, Dr. Suddick earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech and language pathology from Eastern Michigan University and her doctorate in career and technical education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Prior to transitioning her career to academia, Dr. Suddick practiced as a speech-language pathologist in various medical and rehabilitation settings.
