Six Women Scholars Selected for New Faculty Positions

Olutoyosi “Toyo” Aboderin has joined the faculty as an assistant professor in the department of history and the Africana studies program at the University of San Diego. She previously served as the inaugural Andrew W. Mellon fellow for Africana Studies at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. In her scholarly work, she specializes in the portrayal of Black womanhood in media.

Dr. Aboderin is a graduate of Stockton University in New Jersey, where she majored in communication studies. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Africology and African American studies from Temple University in Philadelphia.

Trina McCarter has been named a senior academic advisor at North Carolina Central University. She has been a faculty member with the university’s School of Business since 2019. As an adjunct professor in business development, she teaches career readiness and professional development.

McCarter received her bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in management and her MBA from North Carolina Central University.

Jacquelyn Dee Mosley has been promoted from assistant dean to associate dean of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food, and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas. A faculty member with the university since 2010, she currently teaches as a professor of human development and family sciences in the School of Human Environmental Sciences. Her research endeavors focus on issues related to interpersonal violence.

Dr. Mosley is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, where she majored in psychology with a minor in family studies. She holds a master’s degree in family studies and human development from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in the same discipline from Texas Tech University.

Stephanie Austin has been appointed director of the surgical technology program at Gadsden State Community College in Alabama. She most recently served on the faculty at Walters State Community College in Tennessee, where she was director of the surgical technology program and director of central processing. Prior to her career in academia, she spent over a decade as a certified surgical technologist in medical facilities throughout Tennessee.

Dr. Austin earned her bachelor’s degree in surgical technology and her master’s degree in leadership in higher education from Sienna Heights University in Michigan. She holds a doctorate from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in Florida.

Daifeng He has been promoted from associate professor to full professor of economics at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the Swarthmore community in 2016, she spent seven years on the faculty at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. As a health economist, she researches health care issues among aging populations.

Dr. He received her bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in economics from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in China. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

K. Paige Carmichael has earned the distinction of University Professor at the University of Georgia. A faculty member with the university for nearly four decades, she currently holds the title of Josiah Meigs Distinguished Professor in the department of pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Her expertise centers on animal models of human disease, neuropathology, and ocular pathology.

Dr. Carmichael holds a doctor of veterinary medicine degree from Tuskegee University in Alabama and a Ph.D. in veterinary pathology and pathobiology from the University of Georgia.

Two Women Selected for Key Interim Leadership Roles with the Universities of Wisconsin
