Jill Mizell Drake Appointed Provost of Clayton State University in Georgia

Jill Mizell Drake has been named provost at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. She will assume her position on February 1.

Clayton State University enrolls 5,300 undergraduate students and more than 500 graduate students, according to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 69 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Drake comes to her new role from Georgia Southwestern State University, where she serves as provost and vice president for academic affairs. Prior to her current role, she spent over two decades on the faculty at the University of West Georgia. She held several leadership roles throughout her tenure, including associate vice president for academic affairs, department chair, and program coordinator for early childhood education. A scholar of mathematics education, Dr. Drake is the author of several books, including A Teacher’s Guide to Identifying and Remediating Mathematical Misconceptions (Kendall Hunt Publishing, 2011).

Dr. Drake received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education and her master’s degree from Florida State University. She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Georgia.
