Holly Gruhlke Promoted to Provost at Dickinson State University

Holly Gruhlke has been named vice president of academic affairs and provost at Dickinson State University in North Dakota. Dickinson State University enrolls neaarly 1,400 undergraduate students and less than 100 graduate students, according to the most recent data available from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 58 percent of the undergraduate student body.

A faculty member with Dickinson State University since 2008, Dr. Gruhlke was recently promoted to full professor of business last year. She has held key leadership roles with the university over her long tenure, including chair of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship and dean of the College of Education, Business, and Applied Sciences. She was promoted to vice president of the university in 2023, helping to lead several areas of the institution’s operations. In her new role, she will oversee all aspects of Dickinson State’s academic affairs, including the university’s upcoming accreditation review from the Higher Learning Commission and the implementation of a new bachelor’s degree program in nursing.

As a scholar, Dr. Gruhlke focuses on strategic planning, management issues, and corporate leadership. She teaches several courses relating to business strategy, human resources, management, leadership, entrepreneurship, and internship experiences.

“I look forward to working more closely with our faculty to further innovate our academic offerings,” said Dr. Gruhlke. “With our upcoming accreditation visit, we are well-positioned to highlight the unique strengths of our programs and demonstrate how we are preparing our students to make an impact in our region.”

An undergraduate alumna of Dickinson State University, Dr. Gruhlke earned her MBA from the University of North Dakota and her doctorate in business administration from Wilmington University in Delaware.
