Rebecca Mattson Receives National Recognition for Exceptional Service as a Law Librarian

Rebecca Mattson, professor of legal research and head of faculty and research services at Penn State Law, has received the 2024 Service Award from the Research Instruction & Patron Services Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries. She was recognized for her exceptional contributions in legal section activity and professional service.

Mattson first joined the Pennsylvania State University community 10 years ago. She currently serves as a leader for the H. Laddie Montague, Jr. Law Library and holds several key positions within the Law School. She currently manages the Penn State Law eLibrary and the Penn State Law Research Paper Series. In her role, she provides research support to her law school faculty peers, trains library and faculty research assistants, and serves as the primary library liaison with law school journals and publications. As a professor, she teaches a first-year law course in legal research tools and strategies, as well as an upper-level course in administrative law research.

As an active member of the American Association of Law Libraries, Mattson previously served as chair of the Research Instruction & Patron Services Special Interest Section and founding chair of Teaching the Teachers Conference for Law Librarians. Prior to her role with Penn State Law, she served as a law librarian at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, a research librarian at the law firm Harris Beach, PLLC, and an attorney editor for West/Thomson Reuters.

Mattson is a three-time graduate of the University at Buffalo, where she received her bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and juris doctorate.
