Georgia Southwestern State University Appoints Teresa MacCartney as Interim President

Teresa MacCartney has been named interim president of Georgia Southwestern State University. Georgia Southwestern State University enrolls approximately 2,500 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. Women represent 64 percent of the undergraduate population.

Currently, MacCartney serves as chief operating officer for the University System of Georgia, which consists of 26 public colleges and universities across the state. She previously served as the system’s vice chancellor for administration, and spent one year as acting chancellor. Prior to joining the University System of Georgia in 2019, MacCartney served as chief financial officer for the State of Georgia. She has had an extensive career in state government, holding leadership positions with the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, the Georgia Department of Education, and the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

MacCartney holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master of public administration degree from Georgia Southern University.
