Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions

Indiana University of Pennsylvania has named physician Miko Rose as the founding dean of the university’s proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Rose comes to IUP from the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington.

Dr. Rose earned her medical degree at the Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California.

Tracy Cole was appointed dean of the College of Business and Economic Development at Arkansas Tech University. She had been serving as interim dean. Dr. Cole has served on the faculty since 2007. She is a professor of legal studies and was associate dean for the College of Business and Economic Development from 2019 until taking office as interim dean in August 2023.

Professor Cole holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arkansas. She earned a juris doctorate from the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Marcy Kelly was named dean of the Kakos School of Arts and Sciences at Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York. Earlier, she was chair and professor of biology at Pace University’s Dyson College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Kelly received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York. She earned a Ph.D. in microbiology and molecular genetics from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

Joyce Alexander has been named the next dean of the College of Education at the University of Alabama, with her tenure set to begin January 3. Dr. Alexander previously served as a dean-in-residence with the American Educational Research Association in Washington, D.C. Earlier, she was dean of the College of Education and Human Development at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Alexander holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Wesleyan University. She earned a master’s degree in education and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Georgia.
