Reshma Jagsi is joining the faculty at the Emory School of Medicine in Atlanta as chair of the department of radiation oncology, effective November 7. Dr. Jagsi has been serving as the Newman Family Professor, deputy chair and residency program director in the department of radiation oncology and director of the Center for Bioethics and Social Sciences in Medicine at the University of Michigan. Dr. Jagsi completed undergraduate and medical training at Harvard University. She also earned a doctorate in social policy at the University of Oxford in England as a Marshall Scholar.
Carlayne E. Jackson, a specialist in the treatment and research of neuromuscular disorders such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, has been appointed chair of the department of neurology in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Jackson earned her medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1987 and subsequently completed residency training in neurology and a clinical fellowship in neurophysiology.
Jennifer Ogle was named head of the department of civil engineering at Clemson University in South Carolina. She has been the acting chair of the department since February. She joined the faculty in 2005 and was the first woman to earn tenure in the department. Dr. Ogle received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree both in civil and environmental engineering, from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She holds a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Mary Hawk has been appointed chair of the department of behavioral and community health sciences in the School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. She is an associate professor of behavioral and community health sciences and has been serving as the department’s vice chair for research. Dr. Hawk is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University. She holds a master’s degree in social work and a doctorate in public health from the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
The new presidents are Laurie A. Boeding at the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Melissa Frank-Alston at Northeastern Technical College. Both women are expected to begin their presidencies on July 1.
Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
