Creighton University in Omaha Announces the Appointment of Its Next Provost

Mardell Wilson was appointed the next provost at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She will begin her new duties on October 1.

Creighton University is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. it enrolls nearly 4,500 undergraduate students and more than 4,300 graduate students, according to the most recent statistics furnished to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 58 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Since 2014, Dr. Wilson has been dean of the Edward and Margaret Doisy College of Health Sciences at Saint Louis University. Earlier, she spent 17 years as a faculty member and administrator at Illinois State Unversity.

“Creighton is recognized for academic excellence across the complexity of its nine schools and colleges, with outstanding undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs that emphasize global outreach and the importance of the humanities rooted in the values of Jesuit education,” Dr. Wilson said. “In addition, the university has long been a leader in health sciences education, and its expansion into Phoenix not only advances Creighton’s reputation nationally but addresses a critical need for health care professionals in the Southwest United States. This is certainly an exciting time to be joining Creighton University.”

A registered dietitian and licensed dietitian nutritionist, Dr. Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in human resources and family studies dietetics from the University of Illinois. She holds a master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Illinois State University.
