Grambling State University in Louisiana has announced the appointment of Connie Walton as provost and vice president for academic affairs. She has served in the position on an interim basis since May 2019.
Grambling State University enrolls just over 4,100 undergraduate students and more than 1,000 graduate students, according to the latest data furnished to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 60 percent of the undergraduate student body.
Since being named interim provost, Dr. Walton has led the Division of Academic Affairs and the University’s preparation for accreditation reaffirmation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
“It’s exciting to enter another SACSCOC accreditation cycle with so many new programs for student success and support,” said Dr. Walton. “We are motivated by the high performance of our existing programming and looking forward to building on Grambling State’s firm academic foundation.”
Dr. Walton is a professor of chemistry at the university. Her research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of molecules that exhibit liquid crystalline behavior and polymer synthesis. She holds two U.S. patents.
Professor Walton is a graduate of Grambling State University. She earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at the University of Southern Mississippi.
