Heidi Popham Selected as the New President of Georgia Northwestern Technical College

Heidi Popham has been named president of Georgia Northwestern Technical College in Rome, Georgia. The community college enrolls more than 5,600 students, 62 percent of whom are women.

Dr. Popham has worked for Georgia Northwestern Technical College for the past 23 years. Originally, she was hired as the executive assistant to the president. From there, she went on to serve as director of institutional effectiveness, vice president of institutional effectiveness, and most recently, executive vice president.

“I am honored to be chosen as Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s next president,” said Dr. Popham. “This college is a tremendous asset to the community and I intend to build on its legacy of providing northwest Georgia with a skilled workforce that meets the needs of the 21st-century economy.”

Dr. Popham is a graduate of Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, where she majored in organizational management. She holds a master of education degree and an educational doctorate both from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
