Cathy Sandeen Named Chancellor of the University of Alaska Anchorage

The University of Alaska Anchorage has announced that Cathy Sandeen will be the next chancellor of the educational institution. She will take office on September 15.
The University of Alaska Anchorage, the largest university in the state, enrolls more than 15,500 undergraduate students and nearly 800 graduate students, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 58 percent of the undergraduate student body.
In accepting her new post, Dr. Sandeen said that “I am honored to be appointed chancellor of a dynamic university that plays such a vital role in surrounding communities, the region and the state. During my visit, the optimistic and forward-looking spirit of the students, faculty, staff and community members I met impressed me deeply. I look forward to supporting UAA in making the leap to its next stage of distinction.”
Dr. Sandeen has been serving as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin Colleges and University of Wisconsin Extension. Earlier, she held leadership positions at University of California campuses at Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, and San Francisco.
Dr. Sandeen is a graduate of Humboldt State University in California. She earned a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from San Francisco State University, an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Utah.
