The 11 New Women Fellows of the American Chemical Society

The American Chemical Society has announced a new cohort of 65 ACS Fellows. The fellows will recognized at a ceremony at the society’s national meeting and exposition in Washington, D.C., on August 21. Of this group of 65 new fellows, 11 are women with current affiliations to higher educational institutions in the United States.

Pratibha Varma-Nelson is a professor of chemistry at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She is a graduate of Poona University in India and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Joelle Frechette is an associate professor and director of master’s degree studies in chemical and biomolecular chemistry at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, where she majored in materials engineering. Dr. Frechette holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and materials sciences from Princeton University.

Etta C. Gravely is a professor of chemistry education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro. She is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C.

JaimeLee Iolani Rizzo is a professor of chemistry at Pace University in New York City. She holds an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, two master’s degrees, and Ph.D. all through the City University of New York’s educational system.

Lorena Tribe is an associate professor of chemistry at Pennsylvania State University–Berks in Reading. Dr. Tribe holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Grace Baysinger is the chemistry and chemical engineering librarian at Stanford University in California. She holds a bachelor’s degree in botany and a master of library science degree from the University of Michigan.

Nicole S. Sampson is a professor of chemistry at Stony Brook University in New York. She is a graduate of Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, California, and earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.

Alyson E. Mitchell is a professor of food science and technology at the University of California, Davis. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology from the University of California, Davis.

Julie L. P. Jessop is a an associate professor of chemical and biochemical engineering at the University of Iowa. She joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 2000. Dr. Jessop holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Michigan State University.

Tammy J. Dwyer is a professor and chair of the department of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of San Diego. She joined the faculty at the University of San Diego in 1994. Professor Dwyer is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California, San Diego.

Aurora E. Clark is a professor of chemistry and director of the Center for Institutional Research Computing at Washington State University. She is a graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg and holds a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from Indiana University.
