Four Women Scholars Appointed to Dean Positions

Carolyn Kapinus will be the next dean of the Graduate School at Texas Woman’s University. She is dean of the Graduate School and interim associate vice president for research at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Kapinus will begin her new job on August 1.

Dr. Kapinus is a graduate of Centenary College of Louisiana. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Pennsylvania State University.

Michele C. Murray was named dean of students and vice president for student affairs at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, effective July 17. Since 2006, Dr. Murray has been vice president for the Division of Student Development at Seattle University in Washington State. Earlier, she held student affairs posts at Loyola University Maryland and the University of Vermont.

Dr. Murray is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she majored in rhetoric/communications studies and psychology. She holds a master’s degree in higher education and a Ph.D. in education policy and leadership in higher education from the University of Maryland.

Franca R. Barricelli was appointed dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts. She has been serving as associate dean of the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Dr. Barricelli is a graduate of Scripps College in Claremont, California. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Elizabeth Killingsworth was named interim dean and director of Central University Libraries at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She is the director of the Fondren Library Center and head of research services at the library. She joined the staff at the university in 2013 after working at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.

Killlingsworth is a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler, where she majored in political science. She holds a master of library and information science degree from the University of North Texas.
