Margarita A. Mooney was appointed associate professor of congregational studies at the Princeton Theological Seminary, effective July 1. Since 2013, she has been an associate research scientist in the department of sociology at Yale University. Earlier, she was an assistant professor of sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Mooney is the author of Faith Makes Us Live: Surviving and Thriving in the Haitian Diaspora (University of California Press, 2009).
Dr. Mooney is a graduate of Yale University, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Princeton University.
Martha Mamo was appointed the Aaron Douglas/John E. Weaver Professor of Agronomy and Horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Professor Mamo holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in soil science from the University of Alabama at Huntsville. She earned a Ph.D. in soil science at the University of Minnesota.
Suzanna Rose, professor of psychology and women’s studies at Florida International University in Miami, has been given the added duties as the founding associate provost to lead the Office to Advance Women, Equity, and Diversity at the university. Professor Rose joined the faculty at Florida International University in 2000 after teaching at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Dr. Rose hold bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Pittsburgh.
Eve Straussman-Pflanzer was appointed chair of the department of European art and named the Elizabeth and Allan Shelden Curator of European Paintings at the Detroit Institute of Arts. She has been serving as assistant director of curatorial affairs at the Davis Museum on the campus of Wellesley College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Straussman-Pflanzer is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.
Suzanne Lenhart, Chancellor’s Professor of mathematics at the University of Tennessee, was named the James S. Cox Professor at the university. The designation comes with a stipend of $25,000 to support Professor Lenhart’s research.
Dr. Lenhart is the author of the textbook Optimal Control Applied to Biological Models(Chapman & Hall, 2007). She is the former president of the Association for Women in Mathematics.
Megan K. Mueller is the inaugural holder of the Elizabeth Arnold Stevens Junior Professorship at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine of Tufts University in North Grafton, Massachusetts. Her research focuses on human-animal interaction.
Dr. Mueller joined the faculty at Tufts University in 2013 after earning her Ph.D. in child development at the university.
Cheryl Lyn Walker was named University Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University. Dr. Walker has been serving at the Robert A. Welch Professor and director of the Institute for Biosciences and Technology.
Professor Walker is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder. She earned a Ph.D. in cell biology at University of Texas Health Science Center of the Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
The new presidents are Laurie A. Boeding at the Technical College of the Lowcountry and Melissa Frank-Alston at Northeastern Technical College. Both women are expected to begin their presidencies on July 1.
Dr. McEwen comes to her new appointment following four years as president and vice chancellor of Victoria University in the University of Toronto. Earlier, she served in several leadership roles at the University of Toronto Mississauga. She received some of her education in the United States.
The new provosts are Barbara Rodriguez at the University of New Mexico, Bridget Chalk at Manhattan University in New York, and Jaci Lederman at Vincennes University in Indiana. All three women had been serving as their university's interim provost.
Dr. Howard joins Spelman from Ohio State University, where she has been serving as dean of the College of Engineering. She is a nationally recognized expert in robotics, artificial intelligence, and human-centered technology.
