Yael Z. Cannon was promoted to associate professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law. Her research focuses on children’s law and disability rights. Professor Cannon joined the law school’s faculty in 2012.
Professor Cannon is a graduate of the University of Maryland and the Stanford Law School.
Grace Martin has been hired as an assistant professor of Spanish in the department of world languages and cultures at Bridgewater College in Virginia.
Dr. Martin is a graduate of Morehead State University in Kentucky, where she double majored in vocal music and Spanish. She recently completed her Ph.D. in Hispanic studies from the University of Kentucky.
Jacquelyn Rees Ulmer is the new chair of the department of supply chain and information systems in the College of Business at Iowa State University. She was the interim associate dean and director of accreditation at the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She had been on the faculty at Purdue since 1998.
Dr. Ulmer holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in decision and information sciences from the Warrington College of Business Administration of the University of Florida.
Patricia Brown was appointed chair of the department of fashion design and merchandising at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. In 2008, she founded Patricia Brown Designs, a high-end fashion, jewelry, and accessory design firm.
Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and a bachelor of fine arts degree in fashion from the Parsons School of Design in New York City.
Ica Manas-Zloczower was named a Distinguished University Professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She holds the Thomas W. and Nancy P. Seitz Chair in Advanced Materials and Energy at the university, where she has taught for 30 years.
Dr. Manas-Zloczower holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Polytechnic Institute of Jassy in Romania. She earned a Ph.D. at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology and did postdoctoral research at the University of Minnesota.
Marin Alsop was appointed director of the graduate conducting program at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She has served as the music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra in Brazil.
Born in New York City, Alsop attended Yale University and received a master’s degree from The Juilliard School in New York City.
Patricia Pinciotti, a professor of early childhood and elementary education at East Stroudsburg University has been awarded status as a Distinguished Professor. Professor Pinciotti has taught at the university since 1985.
Dr. Pinciotti is a graduate of Edgecliff College, now part of Xavier University in Cincinnati. She holds a master’s degree and an educational doctorate from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Mary Katherine Scott, a visiting assistant professor of art history at the University of Wyoming has been given the additional responsibility as acting director of the International Programs Office at the university.
Dr. Scott holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wyoming. She earned a second master’s degree in art history from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in world art studies from the University of East Anglia in England.

Dr. Gonzalez is a graduate of Florida International University in Miami, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University and recently completed her doctorate in counselor education and supervision at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
Jolie Rocke Brown has joined the music faculty at Texas Southern University as a visiting professor. She is an accomplished vocalist who has appeared with opera companies around the world. She is the former executive director of the Hartford Conservatory in Connecticut.
Brown is a graduate of the University of Hartford and has done graduate study at Loyola College and the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
