The board of trustees of Burlington College in Vermont has named Carol Moore as interim president. She is the former president of Lyndon State College in Lyndonville, Vermont. Before taking the reins of leadership at Lyndon State College in 1998, she was provost and vice president of academic affairs at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
In September, Christine Plunkett resigned as president of the college. Michael Smith, former deputy state treasurer, secretary of administration, and secretary of human services for the state of Vermont has been serving as interim president since Plunkett’s resignation. Plunkett, who had been president since 2012, had come under criticism after Burlington College was placed on accreditation probation by the New England Association of Colleges and Schools.
“Our task now is to rekindle the ‘fire’ for Burlington College,” Dr. Moore stated in accepting the appointment.
Jennifer Gaither, a lawyer by training, has been a Sullivan University faculty member for the past 25 years. She most recently served as the university's associate provost.
Dr. Crowley has served as provost at Ohio Wesleyan University since 2020. She is slated to become the nineteenth president of Kalamazoo College on July 1.
The three women named to provost positions are Nancy Marchand-Martella at the University of Northern Colorado, Lise Youngblade at Colorado State University, and Randi Storch at Western Oregon University.
Although it was initially founded as school for women, the University of Montevallo has never had a woman president. Now the university has reached a historic milestone and selected selected Michelle R. Johnston to serve as its next president.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
