The American Mathematical Society has announced its latest class of 50 fellows. Of this year’s 50 honorees, five are women.
Stephanie B. Alexander, a professor of mathematics at the University of Illinois was honored for “contributions to geometry, for high-quality exposition, and for exceptional teaching of mathematics.”
Jane Piore Gilman is a professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She has been on the faculty at Rutgers since 1972. A graduate of the University of Chicago, Professor Gilman holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University. The society honored her work in “topology and group theory and for service to her department and the larger community.”
Irena Peeva citation mentioned her “contributions to commutative algebra and its applications.” Dr. Peeva is a professor of mathematics at Cornell University and holds a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Guofang Wei is a professor at the University of California at Santa Barbara. She is a graduate of Zhejiang University in China and earned a Ph.D. at Stony Brook University of the State University of New York system. Professor Wei was honored for “contributions to global Riemannian geometry and its relation with Ricci curvature.”
Amie Wilkinson is a professor of mathematics at the University of Chicago. She was cited her work in dynamical systems. Professor Wilkinson is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley.
