Nine Women Promoted to Full Professor at the University of Iowa

The University of Iowa has announced that 31 faculty members have been promoted to the rank of full professor. Nine of the faculty receiving promotions to full professor are women.

Meenakshi Gigi Durham was promoted to full professor of journalism and mass communications. She holds a joint appointment in gender, women’s, and sexuality studies. Dr. Durham holds a Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

Christine Getz is a full professor of music. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. Her book entitled Mary, Music and Meditation: Sacred Conversations in Post-Tridentine Milan is scheduled for publication by the Indiana University Press in February 2013.

Nicole Marie Grosland was promoted to professor of biomedical engineering with a joint appointment in orthopaedics and rehabilitation. Professor Grosland joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 2001. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from the University of Iowa.

Anita Jung was appointed professor of art and art history. She previously taught printmaking, drawing, and installation courses at Illinois State University, Ohio University, and University of Tennessee. A graduate of Arizona State University, she holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.

Maria Lisa Kraimer was named full professor of management and organizations. Dr. Kraimer is a graduate of the University of Illinois. She holds an MBA and a Ph.D. in human resources management and organizational behavior from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Gabriele Ludewig was promoted to professor of occupational and environmental health. She joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in 2003. Previously, she taught at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Ludewig holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree in human genetics, and a Ph.D. in toxicology, all from the University of Mainz in Germany.

Wendy Maury is a full professor of microbiology. Dr. Maury is a graduate of Duke University. She holds a master’s degree in botany from North Carolina State University and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Virginia.

Asha Rijhsinghani was promoted to full professor of obstetrics and gynecology. She earned her medical degree at the Grant Medical College of Bombay University in India.

Carol J. Severino was named a full professor of rhetoric. She has been on the faculty at the University of Iowa since 1990. Dr. Severino is a graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in linguistics and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
