University of Georgia Names Leadership Academy After Longtime Administrator

The University of Georgia has renamed one of its leadership programs to honor Vivian H. Fisher, a longtime administrator at the university.

The Vivian H. Fisher PSO Leadership Academy is a yearlong program operated by the university’s Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The academy trains faculty and staff members for leadership roles at the university.

Fisher, a native of Thomasville, North Carolina, was a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham. She earned a master’s degree at Ohio State University and then joined the staff at UGA in 1979. She later taught at the university’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. In 1999, she was named assistant vice president for public service and outreach and was promoted to associate vice president in 2001. She remained in that post until her retirement in January 2008. She died in August 2008 at the age of 52.
