Sandra Wong was appointed dean of the college and dean of the faculty at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. Her appointment is effective on July 1. Dr. Wong is an associate professor of sociology at the college and has been on the faculty for 12 years. She previously taught at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.
Dr. Wong is a graduate of Rice University in Houston. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Yale University.
Debbie Mercer was named the next dean of the College of Education at Kansas State University. She takes on her new role in July. Dr. Mercer is currently associate dean for teacher education and a professor at the KSU College of Education. Before coming to Kansas State in 2010, Professor Mercer was a professor and administrator at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas.
Dr. Mercer holds two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and a doctorate, all from Kansas State University.
Barbara Romzek was appointed dean of the School of Public Affairs at American University in Washington, D.C. Her appointment takes effect on July 1. Currently, she is a professor of public affairs and administration at the University of Kansas. She has been on the faculty at the University of Kansas since 1979.
Professor Romzek is a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, a master’s degree from Western Michigan University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
