Menah Pratt Named Chancellor of Three Pennsylvania State University Campuses

Effective August 1, Dr. Pratt will lead Penn State's campuses in Hazelton, Scranton, and Wilkes-Barre. She comes to her new role from Virginia Tech, where she most recently served as vice president for strategic affairs.

In Memoriam: Anna Beth Benningfield, 1940-2026

Dr. Benningfield taught in Virginia Tech's doctoral program in marriage and family therapy for nearly a decade. She was a leader in the broader field of counseling and was twice elected president of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

In Memoriam: Ru Chih Huang, 1932-2026

In 1965, Dr. Huang became the first woman hired to a tenure-track professorship in the physical sciences at Johns Hopkins University. An expert in genetics, she authored more than 300 papers, held 16 patents, and mentored more than 100 students and postdocs throughout her lifetime.

New Endowed Faculty Roles for Three Women Scholars

The women selected for endowed faculty positions are Susan Piedmont-Palladino at Virginia Tech, Jean Rhodes at the University of Massachusetts Boston, and Deborah Delaney at the University of Delaware.

Pilar Garcés-Conejos Blitvich of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Ozzie Abaye of Virginia Tech were appointed to prestigious faculty ranks at their institutions, Hannah Pollin-Galay was awarded tenure at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Dora Epstein Jones was named chair of the architecture department at the University of Colorado Denver.

Jennifer Tank has served as a professor of biological sciences at the University of Notre Dame for more than 25 years. She has conducted extensive research on the ecology and biogeochemistry of streams.
