Patricia Ramsey Will Be the First Woman President of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York
Dr. Ramsey, whose appointment is effective May 1, comes to CUNY from the Thurgood Marshall College Fund in Washington, D.C., where she spent the past year as a senior executive fellow. A biologist by training, Dr. Ramsey previously served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania.
In Memoriam: Barbara A. Newsome, 1946-2021
Dr. Newsome joined the faculty at Mississippi Valley State University in 2001 as an assistant professor in the social work department. During her tenure, Dr. Newsome served as the interim chair of the department, internship field coordinator and the director of the master of social work degree program.

Rosemary Blieszner was appointed dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Sheilah M. Paul is the founding dean of the new School of Education at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York System.
Gail Gibson Fired as President of Essex County College in New Jersey
Last month, Gale Gibson, president of Essex County College in Newark, New Jersey, was suspended with pay. Now the college’s board of trustees has fired Dr. Gibson. She became president of the community college in 2013.
Tracy Smith to Lead the Creative Writing Program at Princeton University
Professor Smith has taught creative writing at the university since 2005. Earlier, she taught at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York, the University of Pittsburgh, and Columbia University. In 2012, she won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry.
Oakland Community College Dean to Lead Selective Preparatory School in Bermuda
Phyllis Curtis-Tweed, a Harvard-educated woman who is currently a dean at Oakland Community College in Michigan, will become the seventh principal of The Berkeley Institute, a highly selective preparatory school in Bermuda.
