A new report from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research finds a serious shortage of child care facilities for student parents on college campuses. The report states that there are 1.9 million single parents currently enrolled in higher education. But only 5 percent of the needed child care facilities are now available on college campuses. Furthermore, the study found that the number of campuses with child care facilities has declined from 2002 to 2009. Community colleges, where many single parents are enrolled, are less likely than four-year colleges to have child care facilities on campus.
