Annie Smith, an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, was named director of the Civil Clinic. The clinic, founded by Hillary Clinton in 1975, provide legal services in civil cases for low-income clients in northwestern Arkansas. The clinic also serves as a valuable educational tool for students at the law school.
Smith joined the faculty at the law school this fall. Previously she taught at the George Washington University School of Law. She is a graduate of Brown University and the University of Wisconsin Law School.
Amanda Albrecht, is a new assistant professor of construction management at the School of Advanced Structures of the University of Cincinnati. She is a former geotechnical engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Albrecht holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in construction management from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Julie A. Luft, the Georgia Athletic Association Professor in Mathematics and Science Education at the University of Georgia, was named co-director of the 2013 Sandra K. Abell Institute for Doctoral Students, a five-day workshop that will be held in Washington, D.C., this coming summer.
Dr. Luft earned her doctorate in science education from the University of Iowa in 1994. Prior to coming to UGA, she was a science educator in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University.
Ingrid Daubechies, the James B. Duke Professor of Mathematics at Duke University, was named the William R. Kenan Professor of Mathematics and Applied and Computational Mathematics, Emeritus at Princeton University. Professor Daubechies taught at Princeton from 1994 to 2011.
Dr. Daubechies earned her bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in physics at Vrije University in Brussels. She is the first woman elected president of the International Mathematics Union.
