Monica Lounsbery Named Provost at Wichita State University in Kansas

Monica Lounsbery has been appointed executive vice president and provost at Wichita State University in Kansas. She will assume her new position on January 5, 2025.
Currently, Dr. Lounsbery serves as dean of the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Long Beach. She has been a faculty member at the university for over eight years. Previously, she spent 15 years as a faculty member and administrator at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, holding positions such as department chair, vice provost, and associate dean for faculty affairs in the School of Medicine.
In her scholarly work, Dr. Lounsbery conducts research on increasing population-level physical activity. Her work has earned her membership in several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Kinesiology. She is also the co-author of the children’s book, I Can Move (Moving People More, 2016).
Dr. Lounsbery is a graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota, where she double-majored in biology and chemistry. She holds a master’s degree in sport pedagogy and a Ph.D. in sport pedagogy and educational research methods from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
