Eight Women Names to Endowed Chairs at Duke University

Duke University recently appointed 26 faculty members to endowed chairs. Of these 26 appointments, eight went to women.

”¢ Edna Andrews was named the Nancy and Jeffrey Marcus Humanities Professor of Slavic and Eurasian Studies. Professor Andrews is a graduate of the University of Alabama and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.

”¢ Tanya L. Chartrand was named the Roy J. Bostock Marketing Professor at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. Dr. Chartrand is a graduate of Santa Clara University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology from New York University.

”¢ Ingrid Daubechies was appointed the James B. Duke Professor of Mathematics. She recently came to Duke from Princeton University. Dr. Daubechies earned her bachelor’s and Ph.D. degrees in physics at Vrije University in Brussels. She is the first woman elected president of the International Mathematics Union.

Ӣ Kimberly D. Krawiec was appointed Katherine Everett Professor of Law at the Duke University School of Law. Professor Krawiec is a graduate of North Carolina State University and earned her law degree at Georgetown University.

Ӣ Priya S. Kishnani was named Chen Family Professor of Pediatrics at the Duke University School of Medicine. She received her training at Topiwala National College in India and completed her residency at Duke.

”¢ Mary E. Klotman is the R.J. Reynolds Professor of Medicine. She earned bachelor’s and medical degrees at Duke. Her research is concentrated on HIV.

Ӣ Kristine Stiles is the France Family Professor of Art, Art History, and Visual Studies. She earned her Ph.D. at the University of California at Berkeley.

”¢ Barbara S. Turner was named Elizabeth Hanes Professor of Nursing. Dr. Turner holds master’s degrees from Webster College and the University of Colorado. She earned her doctorate in nursing at the University of California at San Francisco.

Caroline Attardo Genco Named the First Woman President of the University at Buffalo

Dr. Geneco comes to her new role from Tufts University in Massachusetts, where she has served as provost for the past four years. She is slated become the University at Buffalo's first woman president on August 10.
