Krupali Krusche Recognized by American Academy of Rome for Digital Documentation of Historical Roman Architecture

Krupali Krusche, associate professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, has received the 2024 Adele Chatfield-Taylor Rome Prize in Historic Preservation and Conservation from the American Academy in Rome. The prize is issued annually in support of innovative and interdisciplinary work in the arts and humanities.

Dr. Krusche’s research focuses on the digital documentation of World Heritage sites. Her recent work has centered around Roman architectural history, specifically the Roman Forum and the Vatican. She has overseen numerous architecture exhibits, including the 2023 3D experience of the Roman Forum featured at the Immers-Expo at the University of Oxford in England. Her various research endeavors led her to co-authoring From Pen to Pixel: Studies of the Roman Forum and the Digital Future of World Heritage (L’Erma Di Bretschneider, 2021) and Rediscovering the Hindu Temple: The Sacred Architecture and Urbanism of India (Cambridge Scholars Press, 2011).

In addition to her faculty appointment, Dr. Krusche serves as director of the Digital Historic Architecture and Material Analysis lab and director of the Development and Advancement of Resilient Cities lab at the University of Notre Dame. She previously served the university as director of the Rome program from 2014 to 2018 and associate dean for research in the School of Architecture from 2018 to 2022. Additionally, she is a practicing architect in the United States and India.

Dr. Krusche holds a bachelor’s degree from Bombay University in India where she majored in architecture. She holds a master’s degree from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau, Germany and a Ph.D. from Technical University Dresden in Germany.
