Amy Wright Recognized for Significant Contributions to Marine Natural Products Research

Amy Wright, research professor in the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute at Florida Atlantic University, has been honored with the Paul J. Scheuer Award in Marine Natural Products for her scholarship and accomplishments in the field of marine natural products chemistry. She received her award at the recent Gordon Conference on Marine Natural Products in Ventura, California.

In addition to her faculty appointment, Dr. Wright serves as director of the Center for Excellence in Biomedical and Marine Biotechnology at Florida Atlantic University. For over three decades, she has researched the structure elucidation of more than 100 marine natural products, contributing to new treatments for cancer and other deadly diseases. Her research has led to overseeing more than 200 expeditions to deep water habitats to collect unique organisms and natural products. Additionally, Dr. Wright is dedicated to mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level. She currently organizes an undergraduate summer internship program for students to gain real world marine biology lab experience.

Dr. Wright holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of California, Riverside.
