New Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Prairie View A&M University in Texas received a $850,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a program to aid women faculty members advance into academic administration in schools of technology or engineering at 14 participating historically Black college and universities. With this grant the project is funded through 2014.

Researchers at Drexel University‘s College of Medicine and School of Biomedical Engineering received a $878,422 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to continue work on the Intelligent Breast Exam, a hand-held device that senses the elasticity of breast tissue and can be a valuable tool in the early detection of breast cancer.

Goodwin College in East Hartford, Connecticut, received a $300,000 grant from the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for a program to help women students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The grant will fund the Women Invested in Securing an Education (WISE) program at the college. About 45 to 60 women will receive financial assistance over the next three years.
