University of Arkansas Scholar Wins Book Award from the National Communication Association

Lindsey Aloia, associate dean for international education and associate professor of communication at the University of Arkansas, has been awarded the 2023 Gerald R. Miller Book Award from The National Communication Association. This award is conferred by the Interpersonal Communication Division of NCA to honor the most outstanding book published within the past five years that made a significant contribution to the field of interpersonal communication.

Dr. Aloia received this recognition for her edited collection titled The Oxford Handbook of the Physiology of Interpersonal Communication (Oxford University Press, 2020). Dr. Aloia’s research focuses on elucidating the causes and consequences of verbal aggression in interpersonal associations. Specifically, she studies how qualities of interpersonal interactions, as well as individuals, shape the use of and reactions to verbally aggressive experiences.

Dr. Aloia was named associate dean in August after eight years in Fulbright College at the University of Arkansas, beginning as an assistant professor of communication before her promotion to associate professor in 2020. Additionally, she served as the director of the Center for Communication Research from 2018-2021 before becoming director of honors studies in 2021.

Dr. Aloia holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from The College of New Jersey, a master’s degree in communication from the University of Delaware, and a doctorate in communication arts and sciences from Pennsylvania State University.
