Four Women Faculty Members Who Are Taking on New Duties

Kathleen Horvath, a professor of music at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, has been named the associate provost for academic affairs at the university. Dr. Horvath is a professor of string education and pedagogy and director of orchestras at Case Western Reserve University. She also serves as an instructor of double bass and orchestral conducting at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Professor Horvath holds a bachelor’s degree in music from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester. She earned a master’s degree in string pedagogy and performance and a Ph.D. in music education from Ohio State University.

Patricia White, Centennial Chair and professor of film and media studies and coordinator of gender and sexuality studies at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania will take on additional duties as the next director of the Aydelotte Foundation at the college. The Aydelotte Foundation is an interdisciplinary research center and intellectual community that supports the creation and dissemination of knowledge about liberal arts education. A member of the Swarthmore community since 1994, she will assume the position on July 1.

Dr. White earned a bachelor’s degree in film studies from Yale University. She holds a Ph.D. in the history of consciousness from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Brenda Jacobs was appointed interim chair of the nursing department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. She previously worked as an academic coach and adjunct faculty at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and joined the faculty at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in the fall of 2022.

Dr. Jacobs is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello, where she majored in nursing. She holds a doctor of nursing practice degree from Samford University in Homewood, Alabama.

Bridget Hayden, professor of anthropology at the University of Southern Mississippi, was appointed associate dean of undergraduate education for the College of Arts and Sciences at the university. She served as associate director for undergraduate education for the School of Social Science and Global Studies from 2018-2020 and was interim director of the School of Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Security from 2020-2021.

Dr. Hayden, who has taught at the University of Southern Mississippi for 19 years, is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
