A Trio of Women Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions

Anastasia Loukaitou-Sideris, a distinguished professor of urban planning, is the new interim dean of the Luskin School of Public Affairs at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Loukaitou-Sideris joined the urban planning faculty in 1989, and she has served as associate dean of academic affairs since 2010. Her latest book is Urban Humanities: New Practices for Reimagining the City (MIT Press, 2020).

Professor Loukaitou-Sideris is a graduate of the National Technical University of Athens in Greece. She holds a master of architecture degree, a master of urban planning degree, and a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning, all from the University of Southern California.

Heather Quire was appointed associate vice chancellor and dean of campus life at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. She most recently served as the dean of students at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams. Earlier, she was associate provost and dean of students at Southern Vermont College.

Quire is a graduate of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she majored in information systems. She holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

J. Celeste Lay has been appointed interim dean of Newcomb-Tulane College at Tulane University in New Orleans. She is the senior associate dean of academic affairs and a professor of political science in the School of Liberal Arts at the university. She joined the Tulane faculty in 2004. Professor Lay is the author of Public Schools, Private Governance: Education Reform and Democracy in New Orleans (Temple University Press, 2022).

Dr. Lay is a graduate of the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where she majored in political science. She earned a Ph.D. in government and politics at the University of Maryland College Park.
