Two Women Promoted and Granted Tenure at Hamilton College

Cotten and Merrill

Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, has awarded tenure to two women scholars.

Myriam Cotten was named associate professor of chemistry and granted tenure. Her research is focused on the design of pharmaceuticals with enhanced antibacterial activity and low toxicity for mammalian cells.

Dr. Cotten is a graduate of the Universite Pierre et Marie Curie and holds a master’s degree from the Ecole Superieure de Chimie Organique et Minerale in Paris. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from Florida State University.

Heather Merrill was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of Africana studies. She is the author of An Alliance of Women: Immigration and the Politics of Race (University of Minnesota Press, 2006).

Dr. Merrill holds master’s degrees from Teachers College of Columbia University, the University of Chicago, and the University of California at Berkeley. She also earned a Ph.D. in geography at Berkeley.
