Hamilton College, the highly selective liberal arts educational institution in Clinton, New York, has added seven tenured or tenure-track faculty this fall. Five of these appointments went to women.
Paule Carbonnel is an assistant professor of French and Francophone studies. Her research sits at the crossroads of literature, science, and the history of science, examining how early science fiction engaged eschatological discourse to imagine the planet’s environmental future. Dr. Carbonnel earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Université Toulouse II Jean-Jaurès in France. She holds a Ph.D. in French and Francophone literature from the University of Pennsylvania.
Nahomi Esquivel is an assistant professor of history. Her research examines how informal governance and administrative discretion in the U.S.–Mexico borderlands reshaped the modern American state. A former labor and community organizer, she writes at the intersection of administrative power, racial capitalism, and Latinx political life. Dr. Esquivel is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.
Hannah Rhodenhiser is an assistant professor of economics. She is a macroeconomist whose research focuses on the implications of environmental policies and shocks. From 2018 to 2020, she was a research assistant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Dr. Rhodenhiser is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she majored in economics. She holds a Ph.D. in economics from Boston University.
Lena Trüper is an assistant professor of German studies. Her research and teaching focus on the intersections of literature, popular science, digital art, film, postcolonial studies, and performance studies in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Dr. Trüper holds a master’s degree from Goethe Universität in Frankfurt, Germany. She earned a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Yelsy Hernández Zamora is an assistant professor of Hispanic studies. She joined the Hamilton faculty in 2024, but has now accepted a tenure-track position. She received her bachelor’s degree in art history at the University of Havana and two master’s degrees in renaissance studies and Spanish and Portuguese at Yale University. She is currently completing her doctoral dissertation, which examines the intersection between death, gender, and power in the early modern Iberian empire.
