A Trio of Women Who Have Been Appointed to Diversity Positions in Higher Education

Delia Saenz is the new vice chancellor and chief diversity officer and head of the Division of Equity, Justice, and Inclusive Excellence at the University of California Merced. She spent 30 years on the faculty at Arizona State University.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Pan American University in Brownsville, Texas, Dr. Saenz enrolled at Princeton University, where she received a master’s degree in psychology and a doctorate in social psychology.

Anya Dani is joining the interdepartmental program in the conservation of cultural heritage at the University of California, Los Angeles in a newly created position: director of community engagement and inclusive practice. Most recently, she has been conducting a detailed conservation survey at the Stanford University Archaeology Collections. From 2011 to 2021, Dani led an art conservation program at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology

Born in California, Dani grew up primarily in Delaware, where she earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art conservation at the University of Delaware.

Francellis Quiñones has been selected as the first chief officer of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. She was a program manager for UTEC, a nonprofit organization in Lowell, Massachusetts. Earlier, she taught in the Boston public schools.

Quiñones earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She holds a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Essex in Colchester, England.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
