A Half Dozen Women Who Are Assuming New Administrative Duties in Higher Education

Karen Tumlinson was appointed vice president for finance and administration and treasurer at Central College in Pella, Iowa. She has been serving as the division director of finance and operations at the University of North Texas in Denton. From 2016 to 2018 she served as vice president and chief financial officer at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.

Tumlinson earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Doane University in Nebraska. She holds a master’s degree in business and advanced data analytics from the University of North Texas.

Sherri Berdine is the new director of tribal relations at the University of Washington. Berdine spent a decade at Kauffman & Associates Inc. in Washington, D.C., where she managed federal contracts aimed at improving health care, education, and other socioeconomic disparities for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Berdine is a graduate of the University of Washington, where she majored in sociology and American Indian studies. She earned a master’s degree in Indian law from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma.

Angela B. Abraham was appointed director of eye care services for University Health at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She was the director of eye area services at the Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center in Dorchester, Massachusetts. She also served as the diversity and inclusion liaison and clinical assistant professor at the New England College of Optometry in Boston.

Dr. Abraham earned a bachelor’s degree in biology at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She holds a doctorate in optometry from the University of Missouri-St. Louis School of Optometry.

Gina Wyant was named director of university assessment at the University of Kansas. From 2017 to 2020, Dr. Wyant worked at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, where she served as interim director of online education, associate provost for academic affairs & compliance, and interim provost and vice president for academic affairs and student life.

Dr. Wyant earned her bachelor’s degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in Missouri. She holds an MBA from William Woods University in Fulton, Missouri, and a doctorate in educational leadership from Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas.

Amanda DuBose is the new music and performing arts librarian at Syracuse University in New York. Earlier, she served as a reference librarian at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Illinois, and as a library fellow at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.

DuBose holds a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in information science and learning technologies from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She earned a master’s degree in music from University of Kansas.

Xeturah Woodley was appointed vice president for academic affairs at Dona Ana Community College in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was associate vice president for instruction at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina.

Dr. Woodley is a graduate of Metropolitan State University in Denver, where she majored in psychology and African Americans studies. She holds a master’s degree in social sciences from the University of Colorado Denver and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from New Mexico State University.
