Three Women Who Have Been Selected to Serve as Deans

Juliet Langman was appointed dean of the Graduate College at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, effective July 1. She has been serving as a professor of applied linguistics and senior associate dean and associate dean of graduate studies in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Langman’s research interests focus on minority youth populations in multilingual settings. She joined the faculty at the university in 1998.

Professor Langman earned a bachelor’s degree in French from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She holds a master’s degree in linguistics and a doctorate in language, literacy, and culture from Stanford University.

Laura Lee McIntyre, the Castle-McIntosh-Knight Professor of school psychology in the department of special education and clinical sciences at the University of Oregon, has been named interim dean of the College of Education. Her research focuses on prevention and early intervention to improve child developmental and behavioral health outcomes among underserved children and families, including fostering family-school partnerships. She has been on the faculty at the university for 13 years.

Dr. McIntyre is a graduate of La Sierra University in Riverside, California, where she majored in developmental psychology. She holds a master’s degree in special education and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of California, Riverside.

Julienne Empric was appointed interim vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Dr. Empric is a professor of literature at the college who teaches courses on Shakespeare, English literature, and the history of drama. She joined the faculty at the college in 1974.

Dr. Empric is a graduate of Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. She received a master’s degree from York University in Toronto and a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.
