Five Women Faculty Members Taking on New Assignments at Universities

Samira Daroub, an internationally acclaimed soil and water scientist and professor, has been promoted to director of the Everglades Research & Education Center of the University of Florida. She joined the faculty in 2000. Dr. Daroub is the second woman in the history of the 100-year-old center to take the helm. Located in Belle Glade, Florida, the center’s campus includes offices, laboratories, greenhouses, a 700-acre research farm, and residential dormitories and housing for graduate students and visiting scientists, all in the heart of the Everglades Agricultural Area.

Dr. Daroub earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and a diploma in agricultural engineering and a master’s degree in soil sciences from The American University of Beirut in Lebanon. She holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University.

Lisa Jones will be joining the department of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of California San Diego on July 1. Her research focuses on structural proteomics using biochemical, analytical, and biophysical approaches to study protein interactions important in biological processes. She has been serving as an associate professor in the department of pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Jones holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Georgia State University.

Carrie Grimes has joined Vanderbilt Peabody College of education and human development as program director of its master’s degree program in independent school leadership. She is an assistant professor of the practice of leadership, policy, and organizations. Before joining Peabody, she was director of alumni relations and advancement officer for Severn School in Severna Park, Maryland.

Dr. Grimes is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology and an educational doctorate from Peabody’s online program in leadership and learning in organizations.

Michelle Rinehart, associate dean for academic affairs and outreach in the College of Design at the Georgia Institute of Technology, was given the added duties of vice provost for faculty. She joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 2013.

Dr. Rinehart holds a master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan, and a master of architecture degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. She earned her doctorate in education with a focus on the role of higher education in serving the public good, from the University of Pennsylvania.

Andrea Faber was named vice provost of the Lake Campus of Wright State University in Celina, Ohio. She was dean of technology and liberal studies at Rhodes State College in Lima, Ohio. Dr. Faber formerly taught mathematics at the Lake Campus until 2014, when she moved on to Rhodes State where she was chair of the mathematics department.

Dr. Faber is a graduate of Ohio State Univerity, where she majored in actuarial science. She holds a master’s degree in applied statistics from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Toledo in Ohio.
