Angela Frey, professor of biology and STEM Chair of the Natural Science, Mathematics and Technology Division at Alverno College in Milwaukee, has been named executive director of the college’s Center for Academic Excellence. Dr. Frey began teaching at Alverno in 2001.
Professor Frey earned bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and molecular biology at the University of Wisconsin. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, developmental biology, and genetics from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
Jamie Winders, the director of the Autonomous Systems Policy Institute and professor of geography and the environment at Syracuse University in New York, has been given the added duties of associate provost for faculty affairs. She has served as chair and director of undergraduate studies in the department of geography at the university. Professor Winders is the editor-in-chief of the International Migration Review.
Professor Winders holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. She earned a master’s degree at the University of British Columbia.
Nicole Holt has recently joined the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia, as assistant professor of practice and director of the master of public health program. She was an assistant professor and assistant master of public health program director at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Dr. Holt holds a bachelor’s degree, a master of public health degree, and a doctorate of public health degree, all from East Tennessee State University.
Mary Emery, a professor of psychology, sociology, and rural studies at South Dakota State University, has accepted an appointment as the inaugural director of Rural Prosperity Nebraska at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Rural Prosperity Nebraska combines the scholarship of University of Nebraska professors and researchers with the on-the-ground expertise of extension educators to strengthen activity and quality of life in Nebraska’s rural communities. Dr. Emery will also serve as a professor in the department of agricultural leadership, education, and communication at the university.
Dr. Emery holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in sociology, all from Rutgers University in New Jersey.
Dr. Quiñones, who has been serving as president of California State University, Monterey Bay, is slated to become the first Latina president of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona on July 1.
Dr. Cooper Whitehead brings extensive experience in student affairs and academic leadership to her new role. She comes to Regis university from Boston College, where she has served as vice president of student affairs since 2021.
The new provosts are Alicia Alvero at the City University of New York, Gwen Cash-James at North Idaho College, and Julie Gorlewski at the State University of New York Fredonia.
Currently provost at The Citadel in South Carolina, Dr. Selden previously worked for the University of Lynchburg for 18 years, ultimately serving as provost. She is slated to return to the university as president on July 1.
Dr. Wisdom, superintendent of New Bloomfield R-III Schools in Missouri, is a four-time graduate of William Woods University. She is slated to assume the presidency of alma mater on July 1.
