Three Women Who Have Been Appointed to Dean Positions

Afua Arhin is the new dean of the College of Health, Science, and Technology at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. Previously Dr. Arhin was associate dean of the School of Nursing at Fayetteville State University. Earlier in her career, she taught at Grambling State University in Louisiana and Florida A&M University.

Dr. Arhin is a graduate of the University of Ghana in Africa. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

Maggy Tomova will become the next dean of the College of Sciences at the University of Central Florida. She will take office on October 18. She has been serving as associate dean for the natural, mathematical, and social sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Iowa.

Professor Tomova holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and biochemistry from California Lutheran University. She earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Gretchen Givens Generett is the new dean of the School of Education at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She has been serving as interim dean since July 2020. A Duquesne faculty member since 2008, Dr. Generett also has served as associate dean for graduate studies and research, chair of the department of educational foundations and leadership, and director of the University Council Educational Administration’s Center for Educational Leadership and Social Justice. She holds the Noble J. Dick Endowed Chair in Community Outreach.

Professor Generett earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Spelman College in Atlanta. She holds a doctorate in social foundations of education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
