Four Women Scholars Appointed to Endowed Professorships at Major Universities

Daphna Shohamy was appointed to the Kavli Professorship of Brain Science at Columbia University in New York City. She will also serve as co-director of the Kavli Institute for Brain Science. The institute is focused on the development of novel experimental and computational strategies for analyzing how signaling in neural circuits controls cognitive function and behavior.

Professor Daphna received a bachelor’s degree from Tel-Aviv University in Israel, double majoring in psychology and humanities. She then went on to receive a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Rutgers University in New Jersey.

Thavolia Glymph was named the Peabody Family Distinguished Professor of History at Duke University. She is a professor of history and law at Duke University. Her work focuses on slavery, emancipation, plantation societies and economies, Reconstruction, and Black political thought in the nineteenth century U.S. South. Professor Glymph joined the faculty at Duke University in 2000.

Dr. Glymph is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Millicent Sullivan was named the Alvin B. and Julie O. Styles Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Delaware. Her laboratory develops new biomaterials for drug delivery, gene delivery, and tissue engineering.

Dr. Sullivan earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a certificate in engineering biology from Princeton University. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Rachel Mindrup, an assistant professor of drawing and painting at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, was installed as the Richard L. Deming, MD, Endowed Chair of Medical Humanities. Her focus is on portraiture in contemporary art as it relates to medicine.

Mindrup received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and continued her studies at the Art Academy of Los Angeles. She later earned a master of fine arts degree from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University.
