Four Women Who Are Stepping Down From High-Level University Positions

Carolyn Walters, Ruth Lilly Dean of University Libraries at Indiana University, has announced that she will retire June 30, after more than three decades serving in leadership positions at the university.

Walters has been on the library staff at the university since 1987. She is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio and holds a master of library science degree from Indiana University.

Valerie Hotchkiss has announced that she will step down as leader of the Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries at Vanderbilt University on June 30. Hotchkiss has served as university librarian since August 2016.

Dr. Hotchkiss is s summa cum laude graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she majored in classical languages and literatures. She holds a master of library science degree from Southern Connecticut State University and two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in medieval studies from Yale University.

Sarah-Jane Leslie will step down as dean of the Graduate School at Princeton University on June 30. She will remain on the faculty as the Class of 1943 Professor of Philosophy. Dr. Leslie began teaching at Princeton in 2006 and was promoted to full professor in 2013. She has served as dean since January 2018.

Professor Leslie is a summa cum laude graduate of Rutgers University, where she majored in philosophy, mathematics, and cognitive science. She earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at Princeton University.

Nancy McKenzie Dupont is retiring from her faculty position in the School of Journalism and New Media at the University of Mississippi. She joined the faculty in 2006 after spending 17 years as a broadcast journalist.

Dr. Dupont holds a Ph.D. in mass communication and journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi.
