A Trio of Women Who Have Been Selected to Fill Dean Positions at Colleges and Universities

Claudia Marroquin has been promoted to senior vice president and dean of admissions and financial aid at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, effective July 1, 2021. She has been serving as director of admissions. Marroquin joined the Bowdoin admissions staff in 2010 as assistant dean.

Marroquin lived in the Koreatown neighborhood in central Los Angeles, California, after immigrating to the United States from Guatemala. She is a 2006 graduate of Bowdoin College and is studying for a master’s degree in higher education at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Taléa Drummer-Ferrell is the new dean of students at Kent State University in Ohio. She is the first Black woman to hold the position. Dr. Drummer-Ferrell was director of the Student Multicultural Center at the university.

Dr. Drummer-Ferrell is a graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she majored in family studies. She holds a master’s degree in college student personnel from the University of Louisville and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Kent State University.

Teresa Jayroe is the new dean of the College of Education at Mississippi State University. She has served as associate dean since 2011 and previously worked as director for the college’s Office of Clinical/Field-Based Instruction, Licensure, and Outreach. Dr. Jayroe joined the university’s faculty in 1997, first as a lecturer in the department of curriculum and instruction, with promotions to assistant professor in 1999, associate professor in 2005, and professor in 2010.

Dr. Jayroe holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in elementary education, all from Mississippi State University
