Six Women Named to Dean Positions

Pamela Carroll was named dean of the College of Education at Oklahoma State University. The appointment will become effective this summer. She will also hold a tenured teaching position in the School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership at Oklahoma State.

Dr. Carroll has been serving as associate dean of academic affairs and a professor of education at Florida State University in Tallahassee. She holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Auburn University in Alabama and a master’s degree in English education from Florida State University.

Eileen Sullivan-Marx has been appointed dean of the New York University School of Nursing. Her appointment is effective on July 1. Currently, she is a professor and associate dean of practice and community at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She has been on the faculty at Penn since 1995.

Dr. Sullivan-Marx holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Rochester.

Leslie Jones has been promoted to dean of the College of Education at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She has been serving as a professor and associate dean of the College of Education. She joined the faculty at the university in 2000 as an assistant professor.

Dr. Jones holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Nicholls State University and a doctorate from Louisiana State University.

Ann H. White was named dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. She has served as interim dean since July 2011. Previously, she was an assistant dean of nursing and program director for the doctor of nursing practice program. She has been on the university’s faculty since 1990.

A graduate of the University of Iowa, Dr. White earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Cincinnati. She holds an MBA from West Virginia Wesleyan College and a doctorate in nursing education from Georgia State University.

Lynne Schrum, professor and coordinator of elementary education at the College of Education at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, was appointed dean of the College of Human Resources and Education at West Virginia University.

Dr. Schrum’s research centers on teacher preparation, the integration of technology in education, and educational research methods. She is the author of seven books and is co-author of Leading Technology Rich Schools, forthcoming in May from Teachers College Press. She recently completed a 10-year tenure as editor of the Journal of Research on Technology in Education.

Nancy Cornwell has been selected as the new dean of the College of Arts and Architecture at Montana State University. Her appointment is effective on July 1. Since July 2011, she has served as vice president for academic affairs at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She has previously taught at Ithaca College in New York and Linfield College in Oregon.

A graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, Dr. Cornwell earned a master’s degree from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. in media studies from the University of Colorado.
