Four Women Who Have Been Appointed to Senior Posts as Diversity Officers

Peony Fhagen was named  senior associate dean for equity, inclusion, and faculty development at Colorado College. Fhagen most recently served as associate provost of diversity and faculty development at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.

Dr. Fhagen holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree in clinical psychology and Ph.D. in developmental psychology, both from Pennsylvania State University.

Schvalla R. Rivera has been appointed chief diversity officer, associate vice president of diversity and inclusion, and senior advisor to the president at Grinnell College in Iowa. Dr. Rivera was the assistant to the president for diversity and inclusion at Southern Utah University.

Dr. Rivera holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. She earned a master’s degree in political science and a Ph. D. in curriculum and instruction from Indiana State University.

Tanisha Stevens is the inaugural vice chancellor for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She had been serving as interim director of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and as director of the Office of Academic Integrity at the university. Dr. Stevens joined the staff at the university in 2003.

Dr. Stevens holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She earned a master’s degree in counseling from Saint Louis University and a doctorate in educational leadership & policy studies from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Karen A. Jones is the new vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion At Binghamton University in New York. She was chief diversity officer at Buffalo State College in New York.

Dr. Jones is a graduate of Buffalo State College. She earned a doctorate from the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System.
