Kathleen Jagger Is the New President of Newman University in Wichita, Kansas

Kathleen S. Jagger was named the twelfth president of Newman University in Wichita Kansas. She is the second laywoman to serve as president of the Catholic educational institution since its founding in 1933.

Newman University enrolls nearly 2,800 undergraduate students and more than 600 graduate students according to the most recent data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 62 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Jagger most recently served as acting president at Thomas More University in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Earlier she served as vice president and dean and helped lead the school’s transition from a college to a university. Earlier, she was a professor of microbiology and public health from 1996-2002 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and then was a professor of biology at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Jagger earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology at DePauw University. She holds a master of public health degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
